Cricket Formats and Tournaments

Betting works differently across the three formats — find out what makes each one distinct.

T20

T20

With only 20 overs per innings, a match ends in three to four hours. Big shots and rapid run changes cause odds to move in an instant. BPL and IPL are played in this format, making it the most familiar to Bangladeshi fans.

ODI

One-Day Cricket

In a fifty-over match, the middle overs create time for planning, which brings many more shifts in the in-play market. The ICC World Cup and bilateral series are played in the ODI format.

Test

Test Cricket

In a five-day Test, a draw is a separate result alongside the match winner, so three odds are available. Pitch behaviour and weather change the market day by day, creating opportunities for longer-term betting.

BPL — Bangladesh Premier League

BPL is Bangladesh's biggest T20 tournament. For every match between franchise teams made up of local and overseas cricketers, jdb offers match winner, toss and in-play markets.

IPL and International Matches

IPL is India's franchise T20 league and is very popular among Bangladeshi bettors. Markets are also available at jdb for the T20 World Cup and Bangladesh Tigers international series.

jdb Football and Other Sports Betting

Football and Other Sports

Beyond cricket, jdb offers markets on a range of other sports.

Alongside cricket, football is also available for betting at jdb. A football match lasts a maximum of ninety minutes, and since a draw is a common result, three odds (home win, draw, away win) are always on offer. Football does not have the same pace as T20 cricket; tactical changes happen more gradually.

Just as jdb's casino section has live games, the sports section also has live in-play. The main difference between cricket and football is the speed of the market — in cricket every ball creates a new situation, whereas in football odds shift fastest at the moment a goal is scored.

If you are interested in card games alongside other sports, take a look at the Teen Patti Betting and Card Games section — detailed explanations are available there.

Popular Cricket Markets

These are the markets used most often in every match.

Match Winner

The simplest market — just pick which team will win. In T20 you choose between Team A and Team B; in Test cricket a draw is also an option.

Most familiar

Toss Market

A bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The outcome is completely independent of match conditions, so the odds are often close to even.

Pre-match

Top Batsman

This market is about which player will score the most runs in an innings for a given team. You can pick the batter currently in the best form for Team A.

Performance market

Total Runs Over/Under

A bet on whether a team will score more (over) or fewer (under) runs than a set number in a given number of overs — for example: will Team A score more than 160 runs in 20 overs?

Over / Under

Multi Bet

Multiple selections from different matches are added to the same betting slip. If all selections are correct, the odds multiply to produce a larger return — but if any single selection is wrong, the entire bet is lost.

Multiple selections

First Bowler Wicket

A bet on which bowler will take the first wicket of the match. This market is particularly popular in in-play betting because the result is known within the very first over.

How to Read Odds

Decimal, fractional and American — all three formats convey the same information, just expressed differently.

Comparison example — Team A win, bet ৳200

Format How it is written Result
Decimal 2.50 ৳200 × 2.50 = ৳500 returned (৳300 profit)
Fractional 3/2 ৳3 profit for every ৳2 bet → total ৳500
American +150 ৳150 profit on a ৳100 bet → total ৳500

Favourite's odds — Team B win, bet ৳200

Format How it is written Result
Decimal 1.25 ৳200 × 1.25 = ৳250 returned (৳50 profit)
Fractional 1/4 ৳1 profit for every ৳4 bet → total ৳250
American -400 ৳400 must be bet to win ৳100 → total ৳250

Simple rule for understanding decimal odds

Multiply decimal odds directly by your stake — that gives your total return (including the stake). Odds can never be below 1.00. Odds of 2.00 mean your profit equals your stake.

Simple rule for understanding fractional odds

3/2 means ৳3 profit for every ৳2 staked. The numerator (top number) = profit, the denominator (bottom number) = stake. Add the profit to the stake to get the total return.

Simple rule for understanding American odds

A + sign means underdog: how much profit on a ৳100 bet. A − sign means favourite: how much you need to stake to win ৳100. The larger the number, the better the odds (for + sign).

Multi Bet Example

Say you make three selections across three different matches — with odds of 1.50, 1.70 and 1.90 respectively. In a multi bet these are multiplied:

1.50 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 4.84 (approximately)

That means a ৳100 bet returns ৳484 if all selections are correct. But if even one selection is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost. A multi bet is for entertainment — it is a game, not a way to earn money.

jdb Live In-Play Cricket Betting Odds

Live In-Play Betting

Odds change while the match is in progress — new markets open at every moment.

Live In-Play Active

In-play betting at jdb means you can place bets even after the match has started. When Team A has scored 100 runs for 5 wickets, Team B's odds of winning increase. If a big six is hit in the next over, those odds drop again — this is how the market moves with every delivery.

After a wicket, the batting team's odds generally rise — because there is more pressure to score more runs with fewer wickets remaining. But if the new batter comes in and immediately hits fours and sixes, the odds can shift back quickly. The run rate per over also affects the market — a team attacking in the final five overs will have lower odds than one defending.

Live betting is even easier on the jdb app — you can view markets and place bets at any moment during the match.

Some Practical Advice on Betting

Cricket betting is for entertainment — play responsibly.

01

Set your budget first

Decide how much you will spend before each betting session. You should not go beyond your budget — betting more in the hope of winning turns betting into a burden.

02

Focus on one market

For new bettors, it is better to start with a simple market like match winner. Without a clear understanding of the odds in complex markets, the risk of making the wrong decision increases.

03

Avoid rushing in live betting

In-play markets move fast, so placing bets in a hurry increases the chance of mistakes. Look at the odds, understand them, then make your decision.

04

Think before placing a multi bet

Adding many selections together raises the potential return, but losing even one means losing everything. A multi bet is for entertainment — not for financial planning.

05

Understand the toss market

The toss is entirely random — it has no connection to pitch conditions or team form. Betting on the toss market is therefore pure chance; analysis is of no use.

06

Play responsibly

Betting is entertainment — it is not a source of income. Read more about responsible betting and follow the 21+ age rule.

Cricket Betting Common Questions

Answers to some frequently asked questions about betting.

A T20 match ends in just three to four hours, so in-play odds shift very quickly. In an ODI, the middle overs of fifty give time for strategy and odds move relatively slowly. In Test cricket the market runs over five days and a draw is a separate result — so the match winner market has three odds. Daily weather and pitch behaviour also affect the market each day.

1.25 is the favourite's odds — the betting site considers this team more likely to win. A ৳200 bet returns ৳250 if it wins (only ৳50 profit). 2.50 is the odds for a less fancied side — a ৳200 bet returns ৳500 if it wins (৳300 profit), but the chance of winning is lower. Lower odds mean less profit but a stronger favourite — higher odds mean a bigger potential return but a lower probability.

In-play betting means you can place a bet at any point after the match has started. After every wicket, big shot or run-out, the odds update automatically. For example: if Team A has scored 80 runs for 3 wickets in ten overs, their odds of winning will be different from when they have scored 80 runs for 0 wickets in ten overs. The faster the odds move, the more carefully you need to make decisions.

No — a multi bet can return more, but the risk is also much higher. If three selections have odds of 1.50 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 4.84, a ৳100 bet returns ৳484 — but if just one selection is wrong, the entire ৳100 is lost. A single bet depends on only one match, so the risk is lower. A multi bet is an entertaining option — it should not be treated as a strategy for earning money.

The main betting markets are the same — match winner, toss, top batsman, multi bet. However, the odds differ because the team strengths and styles of play vary between the two leagues. IPL features more world-class players, making some matches harder to predict. The local context of BPL is more familiar to Bangladeshi fans.
